River cruising is the best way to see Europe

The number of Americans who take river cruises in Europe is still tiny as compared to the number who take ocean cruises. But it's a niche that's growing fast, thanks to a handful of companies such as Chatsworth, Calif.-based AmaWaterways. Founded in 2002, the rapidly expanding river line now operates 9 vessels in Europe and Asia, with three more on the way for 2011. What's fueling the growth in river cruising? Royal Caribbean calls on passengers to tip staff 20% more

Royal Caribbean today sharply hiked the amount of gratuity it suggests passengers give to the staff on its ships.
The line says that, effective for voyages booked this week that depart on or after July 1, it is calling on passengers to give out tips of $11.65 per day while on its vessels. That's up nearly 20% from the $9.75 it has recommended as a gratuity in recent years.
