Cunard slashes fares up to 60 percent in 5-day sale

Cunard Line, which has been crowing about its festivities to commemorate the upcoming royal wedding, is citing the 85th birthday of Queen Elizabeth today as a reason for slashing fares up to 60% in a five-day sale that kicks off on Monday.

More than two dozen cruises are eligible, from trans-Atlantic crossings to a Christmas Hawaii voyage. The sailing dates range from early September to early January.

For example, Queen Victoria's 12-night Egypt and Greek Isles cruise on Oct. 27 is priced starting at $1,091 per person, double occupancy, for an ocean-view category stateroom, a savings of the maximum 60 percent.

The ship overnights in Venice, Italy, before visiting Split and Dubrovnik in Croatia, Corfu in Greece and Alexandria in Egypt. The cruise continues to Kusadasi, Istanbul and Dikili in Turkey and Volos in Greece before arriving at Piraeus, the port for Athens.

Five other Mediterranean sailings on Queen Victoria in September, October and November are discounted, along with the Venice to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. crossing on Nov. 20, the Dec. 6 Panama Canal transit and the Dec. 21 Hawaii cruise.

Queen Mary 2 sale dates include nine trans-Atlantic crossings from early September to early January, the Sept. 12 British Isles cruise, the Sept. 27 Canada/New England sailing, the Oct. 30 Canary Islands voyage and the Dec. 19 Caribbean cruise.

Queen Elizabeth sale dates include the Sept. 2 British Isles cruise, the Sept. 12 Canada/New England sailing, two Mediterranean voyages in October, the Oct. 23 "European Getaway," a pair of Canary Islands voyages in November and December and the Nov. 27 Caribbean cruise.
