Puerto Rico: Crime wave reaches Condado hotels

Puerto Rico has increased the number of police in the posh Condado tourist district after two recent murders rocked the area, Fox News reports.
The most recent murder: A 21-year-old visitor fatally stabbed on April 18 by several men on the beach of a well-known hotel. The report did not identify the hotel.
The Condado area is home to properties such as the Caribe Hilton, Doubletree by Hilton, San Juan Marriott, La Concha Renaissance, Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza and Radisson Ambassador.
The murder of Julian Romero Rodriguez, the story says, "has caused unease among the authorities, who see that the current crime wave is reaching a tourist area considered - to date - to be removed from the street violence on the island."
Romero's killing follows the murder of a man in the parking lot of Condado's La Concha hotel the prior week. That murder is believed to have been linked to drugs and prostitution.
Last week, the Associated Press reported that a New Jersey man faces murder and weapons charges in connection with the first murder at La Concha. Police are still investigating Romero's murder.
The Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association plans to analyze the consequences of the two killings on the tourism sector, Carlos Martinez told Fox News. Martinez runs the association's security committee.
The crime wave in Puerto Rico has resulted in 345 killings so far this year, 82 (about 25%) more than the same period in 2010, the story says.
