Readers to Comfort Inn: Put a rush on your makeover

Sadly, we can't expect actual photos anytime soon. Choice Hotels isn't yet saying which hotel will sport the new look first, and regardless of where it is, I'm told we're more than a year away from seeing the first new-style properties.

But before I get to the timing info, I want to highlight a few of your comments on the Comfort makeover announcement story.

Bottom line: Even before seeing the good looking computer renderings in this blog post, Hotel Check-In readers clearly want Choice and its Comfort hotel owners to put a rush on their renovations.

Hotel Check-In Reader partlycloudy writes:

"I remember back in the 70's and 80's when Comfort Inns seemed to be on the high-end for middle class people. They were very, very nice. Then sometime after that, they really spiraled down. They were awful. I hope they get back to where they were."

Hotel Check-In reader tbirdguy didn't mince words:

"It's not their image that needs improving, it's their hotels. The rooms are out of date, dirty, shabby, and many of their hotels are located in undesirable locations. They have a LOT of work to do before I will consider them again."

Hotel Check-In Reader spidey007 provides Choice with some specific suggestions:

"Can you come up with a plan for taking out those lights next to the beds and install mood lighting? Also, take out (the) old style desk (and replace it) with something more up to date with plug-ins and chairs on rollers."

So, what's up with timing?

You'll be able to sleep on new bedding in Comfort Inn and Comfort Suites hotels starting at the end of this year, Choice spokesman Rocco Loverro told me.

To experience the complete new look, however, will require patience.

It will take until late 2012 before we begin to see the new-style properties, whether newly built or newly renovated.

Sadly, we don't yet know which specific hotel will be first out of the gate with the new design but I'll keep you posted.

Choice execs made the announcement about the new designs at its Boston annual convention last Thursday. Like InterContinental Hotel Group's Holiday Inn-brand overhaul that's taken place over the last few years, Choice's Comfort revamp will bring changes that customers will see from arrival to check-out. In 2010, Choice began revamping its Sleep Inn chain.
