Vacation Rentals in Australia

The US dollar has taken a beating in the foreign markets, but one place that is still fairly favorable is Australia. The US and Australian dollars are about equal (at this time) so there are no nasty surprises when getting your money exchanged. While vacation rentals are getting tight for the northern hemisphere summer market, there are still plenty of opportunities available.
The average high temperatures in Sydney during their winter months of June, July and August are in the low to mid 60s with lows ranging in the upper 40s to mid 50s. A bit cool for my tastes to go swimming, but great for taking a bit of a walk about. That is perfect weather to throw on a jacket and explore the region, have a picnic, and just generally take in the sights.
Darwin however, is a different story. It is far enough north to be tropical in nature. It has the same sort of weather you could expect to find in Barbados. Very little rain falls during this time of the year. So if you like it hot and sunny, Darwin is your best bet. That is the nice thing about being a continent; you are big enough to have a wide range of temperatures.
The vacation rental market has a huge range of properties available although trying to find one in Darwin is a not always the easy. However, there are a wide variety of properties to choose from around Australia. The possibilities include apartments, bed and breakfast spots, cottages, villas, houseboats, and even a converted jail cell.
The converted jail cell was small, but very cute and unique. I wouldnt try to fit all the kids and grandkids in that space, but it would be a fun, cozy spot for my spouse and me. I keep reminding my spouse, it is okay for just the two of us to go on vacation. It doesnt always have to be a family production.
If you decide to stay in one of Australias big cities, you may not even need to rent a car. If you decide to stay out of the hustle and bustle then a car is a must. It is time for just a word of caution about setting out in your car to see the outback.
The outback is not a place to go for a casual drive. Most of the roads are not paved, and some are for 4 wheel drive vehicles only. When they say only 4 wheel drive vehicles, they seriously mean just that. The roads to the tourist destinations are fairly well traveled and okay for a fun trip. However, if you are planning to do more than that, you must be prepared. Do not undertake that kind of journey just on a whim. If touring the outback is in your vacation plans, you might want to consider joining the RAA the Australian counterpart to AAA.
One venture you can take on just a whim is walking around the Sydney Aquarium. Comfortable shoes are a must as there is a lot to see, and if you are going to go on the glass bottom boat adventure, you will need to have closed toe shoes. That disclaimer always concerns me, but not to worry, it is a great time.
